The United States and South Korea have announced a combined $2.5 million (P145 million) in humanitarian aid to support the Philippines’ recovery from Typhoons Tino (Kalmaegi) and Uwan (Fung-wong).
The US Embassy said Washington will provide an additional $1.5 million, bringing total US assistance to $2.5 million. Aid will cover logistics, emergency shelters, water and sanitation resources, and evacuation center management.
“As millions of Filipinos face the challenges left by these overlapping disasters, including the Cebu earthquake in September, our continued rapid response stands as a testament to the depth of the enduring ties between the United States and the Philippines, especially in times of crisis,” the embassy said. US military assets were also deployed to transport relief items.
The Korean Embassy announced $1 million in aid, channeled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to support speedy recovery for affected communities. “We hope this support will help speed up relief operations and contribute to bringing affected communities back to normal as soon as possible. Korea continues to stand by the Filipino people during this challenging time,” it said.
