The United States government announced Saturday that it is providing $1 million in immediate life-saving assistance to support the Philippines’ ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
The emergency funding is earmarked to help communities severely affected by the recent combination of natural disasters, primarily the devastating effects of Typhoon Tino and a series of recent earthquakes that have struck the country.
The aid package was confirmed by the U.S. Department of State.
The assistance comes in the wake of Typhoon Tino, which made landfall earlier in the week. The powerful storm, internationally known as Kalmaegi, unleashed heavy rains across the Visayas and Mindanao regions, triggering massive, destructive flooding.
Tino left in its wake at least 164 people dead, 176 injured, and 79 individuals still reported missing.
Earlier, the U.S. government extended critical assistance to one of the hardest-hit areas, Cebu. That support involved the delivery of essential supplies, including emergency shelter, crucial logistics services, and provisions for safe water and sanitation to address immediate health and displacement concerns in the typhoon’s aftermath.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of State emphasized the strength of the relationship between the two nations.
