UnionBank has taken another bold step in shaping the future of digital finance in the Philippines, enabling its Visa credit cardholders to make seamless, secure, tap-to-pay transactions through Google Pay using any NFC-enabled Android device. The launch positions the bank as one of the early movers in bringing Google’s mobile payment innovation to Filipino consumers, marking a shift toward faster and more intuitive everyday payments.
The addition of Google Pay transforms daily transactions into frictionless moments. Whether buying breakfast on the go, paying for groceries, or settling bills at restaurants and retail counters, UnionBank cardholders can now simply tap their phones—no physical card, no manual input of details. As long as the terminal supports contactless payments, the phone becomes the wallet.
Mukul Sukhani, Cards and Consumer Lending Head, said the move reflects UnionBank’s mission to simplify financial interactions through technology. He noted that the bank’s goal has always been to ensure that digital payment experiences feel natural and effortless for customers, and Google Pay does exactly that—offering a secure way to pay with just a tap of one’s mobile device.

Google Philippines Country Manager Prep Palacios highlighted that the partnership underscores a shared commitment to strengthening the country’s digital economy and expanding access to modern financial tools. Bringing Google Pay to more Filipinos, he said, aligns with the vision of greater financial inclusion and safer, more convenient digital transactions.
The rollout builds on UnionBank’s growing suite of contactless solutions, including its Tap to Pay function on the UnionBank Online app. These advancements are all part of the Bank’s digital-first approach—creating practical, consumer-centric innovations that reinforce its standing as one of the country’s most forward-thinking financial institutions.
Setting up Google Pay is quick and simple: install the Google Wallet app, add your UnionBank Visa Credit Card, and start making tap-and-go payments immediately. Existing card rewards, rebates, and cashback benefits automatically apply, now accessible directly from one’s smartphone.
Security remains a core pillar of the experience. Google Pay’s advanced encryption and tokenization ensure sensitive details stay protected, while UnionBank’s own cybersecurity measures safeguard every transaction—giving cardholders confidence in every tap.
Chief Marketing & Experience Officer Albert Cuadrante emphasized that while technology drives the innovation, the end goal is always customer benefit. Building a cashless ecosystem, he said, helps create payment experiences that fit seamlessly into modern lifestyles. With Google Pay, UnionBank further elevates convenience and unlocks new possibilities for its customers.
UnionBank Visa Credit Cards are the first to enjoy this new capability, with Visa Debit Cards soon to follow as the rollout expands.
