Ukraine signaled it is prepared to match any ceasefire steps announced by Russia for the Easter period, while cautioning against a return to hostilities after the holiday.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv remained open to reciprocal actions, reiterating earlier proposals for a temporary halt in fighting during the religious observance.
He said Ukrainians deserved a holiday period free from threats and expressed hope that the pause could lead to more sustained efforts toward peace beyond Easter.
Orthodox Christians in both Russia and Ukraine mark Easter based on the Julian calendar, with Good Friday falling on April 10 and celebrations culminating on April 12.
Russia earlier announced a temporary ceasefire to coincide with the holiday, covering a limited period beginning the afternoon of April 11 until the end of April 12.
The Kremlin said the order was issued under Vladimir Putin and included instructions for Russian forces to suspend combat operations across all fronts.
Military leadership was also directed to remain on alert for any potential violations or hostile actions during the ceasefire window.
Moscow said it expected Ukraine to adopt similar measures, as both sides face renewed calls for de escalation amid ongoing conflict.
