U.S. envoy heads to Moscow to nail down Trump’s 28-point Ukraine peace plan

he United States is accelerating diplomatic efforts to end the Ukraine crisis, with President Donald Trump confirming Tuesday that he has dispatched a special envoy to Moscow to finalize a comprehensive peace deal.

President Trump announced that he has directed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This high-stakes visit is part of a coordinated effort, as Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll is simultaneously holding talks with Ukrainian officials.

Writing in a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “In the hopes of finalizing this Peace Plan, I have directed my Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with President Putin in Moscow and, at the same time, Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will be meeting with the Ukrainians.”

The peace initiative centers on the “original 28-Point Peace Plan,” which was drafted by the United States and unveiled last week. According to the President, the document has been “fine-tuned” with input from both sides and has reached a critical stage. Trump noted that his team has made “tremendous progress” and that “there are only a few remaining points of disagreement.”

The current diplomatic push follows a series of recent meetings. Representatives from the U.S., Ukraine, and various European nations met in Geneva on Sunday to discuss the plan. Earlier this week, U.S. Army Secretary Driscoll was engaged in discussions on the draft with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi.

President Trump expressed optimism about the path forward, stating he looks forward to meeting soon with both President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but only once the deal is fully finalized or is in its absolute final stages (Xinhua)
