Typhoon Tino displaces 80,000 in Caraga Region

Typhoon Tino has displaced nearly 80,000 individuals in the Caraga Region, with many seeking refuge in evacuation centers as the storm approached landfall on Monday evening.

According to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Tuesday, a total of 43,662 families (or 159,925 individuals) from 330 barangays were affected by the typhoon.

Of these, 23,508 families (or 79,720 individuals) were displaced. 17,273 families are currently sheltered in 583 evacuation centers, while 6,235 families chose to stay elsewhere.

In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units have distributed 1,899 family food packs, worth PHP1,136,287, to residents in Tubay, Agusan del Norte, Surigao City, and San Jose, Dinagat Islands.

Damage assessments are ongoing to evaluate the impact on infrastructure and agriculture in the affected areas.
