Filipino rising star Karl Eldrew Yulo capped his impressive run at the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships with a second bronze medal, wrapping up his campaign on a high note at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City.
The 17-year-old standout delivered a steady 14.000 on the horizontal bar to finish behind Colombia’s Camilo Vera (14.533) and the United States’ Danila Leykin (14.233). The podium finish came just a day after he secured his first bronze in the floor exercise.
“I’m so happy because all the hard work paid off. At least I still managed to win two bronze medals,” Yulo said, adding his gratitude to supporters and to coaches Reynald Capelan and Munehiro Kugimiya, who guided his preparation. The younger brother of Paris Olympics double-gold champion Carlos Yulo also earlier claimed a silver in vault at the Asian Junior Championships in Jecheon, South Korea last June.
The event produced its share of shared victories and standout performances. Vera and Japan’s Nao Ojima were crowned co-champions in the parallel bars after both posting 13.866, while Chinese floor gold medalist Lanbin Yang settled for third with 13.600. Ojima’s win marked his second medal of the meet following his all-around silver.
In the vault, neutral athlete Arsenii Dukhno clinched his second gold with a 14.333, outgunning Britain’s Sol Scott (14.066) and Evan McPhillips (13.950).
The women’s side saw China’s Yina Xiang top the balance beam with 14.133, followed by Japan’s Yume Minamino (13.800) and American Caroline Moreau (13.600), who earned her second bronze of the competition. Japan’s Misa Nishiyama later captured the floor exercise gold with 13.533, while France’s Elena Colas (13.200) and Maiana Prat (13.166) completed the podium.
