Tropical Storm Caloy was expected to weaken into a tropical depression, but its extension could still bring rain to parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the storm was not likely to directly affect any part of the country.
However, it noted that the system’s trough may begin to influence weather conditions later in the day, particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao.
The agency said the cyclone’s extension could trigger rainfall in these areas by Sunday evening.
They explained that while the main circulation would remain far from land, its outer bands could still affect localized weather.
As of early morning, Caloy was located about 925 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.
It was moving west northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, according to Pagasa.
The storm maintained maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour.
