President Donald Trump on Monday announced a fast-track visa program for fans attending the 2026 World Cup, though he warned it does not guarantee entry into the United States.
Speaking in the Oval Office alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump urged ticket holders to apply immediately. Infantino called the “FIFA Pass” a “very important announcement,” allowing fans with tickets to secure prioritized visa appointments.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified, “Your ticket is not a visa… It guarantees you an expedited appointment, you’re still going to go through the same vetting.” Interviews are expected within six to eight weeks.
The announcement comes amid concerns that Trump’s hardline immigration policies could affect fans, and he has floated the possibility of relocating games from certain cities. The World Cup draw will take place in Washington on December 5, coinciding with FIFA’s unveiling of a new peace prize, which some speculate could be awarded to Trump.
