U.S. President Donald Trump announced Friday that the United States will resume nuclear weapons testing “like other countries,” although he did not say whether that includes detonating a nuclear warhead.
Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to Florida, Trump told reporters: “I don’t want to tell you about that, but we will do nuclear testing like other countries.”
Trump also noted that last month he had directed the U.S. military to immediately restart the nuclear testing process after 33 years, a move he initially announced on his social-media platform while flying to meet Xi Jinping in Busan, South Korea.
The announcement marks a significant shift in U.S. nuclear-policy posture and is likely to draw global attention from allies and adversaries alike.
