Trillanes targets Sen. ‘Bato’ in ethics complaint

Citing Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa’s long absence in the Senate, ex-senator Antonio ‘Sonny’ Trillanes IV has announced that they will be filing an ethics complaint against the former Philippine National Police chief over his non-attendance from Senate sessions since November of last year.

Accordingly, Trillanes disclosed that “(they) will be filing an ethics case against him because the government keeps spending for his (Dela Rosa’s) compensation as member of the Senate despite his unexplained absences.”

The former legislator added, though, that they are still giving Dela Rosa enough time to react in case he changes his mind.

Yet, Dela Rosa’s legal counsel has informed the Senate and media that there has been no opportunity for him since his client’s ‘disappearance’ to directly communicate to him.

“We do not have a chance to talk to Senator Bato, only through his wife,” the counsel said, even as lawyer Israelito Torreon refused to confirm if the ‘missing’ senator is still in the country.

Meanwhile, Atty. Torreon expressed confidence that the public understands the current situation of his client.

“He is in a unique situation simply because of the fact that there was already very good example as to what happened to former President Rodrigo Duterte,” he noted.

“Even if we hold an election now and conduct a referendum, I think the people of the Republic of the Philippines, a great majority understand his situation,” he likewise opined.

Earlier this week, Dela Rosa resurfaced on social media with a message marking his birthday, saying he is “alive and well, and gratefully celebrating 64 years of my God-given life.”

“I am waiting. Waiting for true justice to emerge and prevail. Not this threat of fake, foreign meddling from those who do not and can never really know us or be like us,” he posted on his Facebook account.
