Bicol Region belongs to the list of areas that severe tropical storm Kristine had affected. Numerous flights to and from Bicol were canceled from Oct. 22 to 23 due to the extreme weather impacts the storm has brought, making the airplanes unable to depart from their respective airports.
As of now, Daraga, Virac, Masbate, and Naga airports are open and operational for receiving relief goods.
“We have CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines) personnel available to assist if there are ever flights in these airports,” Bautista said.
According to CAAP, Bicol International Airport was operational beginning this Wednesday. However, Cebu Pacific (CEB) and Philippine Airlines personnel were not able to arrive because they could not pass through the roads heading to the airport.
CAAP announced the resuming of commercial flight operations at the BIA on Thursday, yet the weather conditions were still unsafe for air travel. Therefore, CEB flight 5J 325/326 from and to Manila was canceled.
Virac Airport reported the lack of damage to their airport.
Naga Airport provided a mobile charging station outside its main gate to help those who needed charging, and at least 43 people were led to the airport’s arrival area to host them and provide temporary shelter against the inclement weather.
CAAP assures that they remain vigilant in ensuring passengers’ safety, security, and welfare.
