Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Nicolas Torre III on Monday extended an open invitation to Vice President Sara Duterte to visit Camp Crame and observe how the police force is integrating modern technology into its operations.
The invitation follows Duterte’s recent remarks criticizing the traditional “pulis sa kanto” or visible police presence strategy. She called the approach outdated and likened it to a mindset from the 1970s and 1980s, urging law enforcers to shift their focus toward modernization.
“The vice president is always welcome to visit us here in Camp Crame to see kung paano natin ginagamit ang teknolohiya sa pagpupulis natin,” Torre told reporters, emphasizing that the PNP has already made significant strides in adopting technological tools for law enforcement.
Torre recalled that in 2023, Duterte had previously visited the Quezon City Police District headquarters in Camp Karingal, where she was briefed on the use of integrated monitoring systems and other innovations in policing.
“Sa ngayon, suffice it to say, ‘yong mga suggestions about CCTV and body cameras and about drones ay atin nang ginagawa and rest assured we are making leaps and bounds in integrating these technologies in our operations,” he added.
Torre’s remarks aim to highlight the PNP’s ongoing efforts to modernize its methods, especially in the areas of surveillance, crime prevention, and operational efficiency.
