Former Philippine National Police chief Nicolas Torre III on Thursday denied reports that he had filed or signed an application for optional retirement from the police service.
The denial came after a general order dated January 19 circulated stating that Torre’s separation from the service had been approved by the National Police Commission.
The order indicated that his retirement took effect in late December 2025 and included the release of benefits corresponding to his rank.
Speaking to reporters during an inspection of the Bayanihan sa Estero cleanup at the Kalabingkoho River in Valenzuela City, Torre said no retirement papers had been presented to him.
He added that he would first raise the matter within the organization before making any further comment.
Torre, now serving as general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, joined Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian during the activity.
The reported retirement would clear the way for Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. to be promoted to the four-star rank of police general.
