Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III dismissed speculation that he might be tapped to lead the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), stating that he is not qualified for the position.

Torre’s remarks came just a day after his abrupt removal as head of the PNP on August 26, a move that sent shockwaves through law enforcement and political circles. While the Palace confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. intends to give Torre another role in government, no details have been released on what position that might be.

“Let’s just wait for the official announcement, if there will be any,” Torre told reporters on Wednesday, August 28, avoiding speculation on his next career move.

His ouster has fueled speculation on where the veteran police official will land next, with some observers pointing to investigative or security-related posts. But Torre was quick to shut down the NBI rumor, stressing that the bureau requires a different set of expertise outside his policing background.

Political analysts note that Torre remains a valuable ally for the administration, and his reassignment could be strategic—either in a security advisory role or within another high-profile government agency. For now, however, Torre has kept his cards close to his chest, saying he will wait for Malacañang’s word before making any move.
