Thousands march in Mexico City against crime, corruption

MEXICO CITY — A few thousand protesters took to the streets of Mexico City on Saturday, November 15, 2025, demonstrating against what they described as widespread crime, corruption, and impunity in the country.

The march, which began as an initiative by members of Generation Z (Gen Z), expanded to include older citizens, activists, and supporters of opposition parties, unified by systemic frustrations over public security and governance.

Demonstrators cited a lack of safety and demanded accountability from authorities. Andres Massa, a 29-year-old business consultant, highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, “We need more security.”

Another participant, physician Arizbeth Garcia, 43, marched to advocate for increased funding for the public health system and better protection for doctors, noting that medical professionals “are also exposed to the insecurity gripping the country.”

The demonstration follows a recent spate of high-profile crimes, including the assassination of a popular mayor in the western state of Michoacan. Supporters of the slain mayor, Carlos Manzo, attended the protest, with one 65-year-old real estate agent who traveled from Michoacan asserting, “The state is dying.”

The protest occurred despite Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum maintaining high approval ratings. In the days leading up to the event, Sheinbaum publicly accused right-wing opposition parties of attempting to infiltrate the Gen Z movement and using social media bots to artificially boost attendance.
