The death toll from a school shooting in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province climbed to seven on Friday, according to local media, although authorities had yet to officially confirm the updated figure.
The attack unfolded Thursday morning at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, where police identified the suspected gunman as one of the students.
Authorities said the shooting began at around 10:12 a.m. on the sixth floor of one of the school’s buildings.
The suspected shooter later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to media reports.
Teachers evacuated students and school personnel as the incident unfolded, while emergency responders transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
Investigators also recovered dozens of rounds of ammunition from a bag believed to belong to the suspect.
Police later found the bodies of the suspect’s grandparents at their home. Investigators believe they had been killed before the school attack.
Authorities have secured the campus and launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting.
