Suspected NPA rebel killed in Negros Oriental clash

GUIHULNGAN CITY, Negros Oriental — An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed during an armed encounter with government troops in Barangay Humay-humay, Guihulngan City, on the morning of May 1, 2025.

Authorities recovered the body of a male individual during a clearing operation following the firefight. Police Lt. Jerome de Lara, deputy chief of the Guihulngan City Police Station, said an M16 rifle, ammunition, and various personal belongings and subversive documents were found at the encounter site.

A soldier from the Philippine Army was also reported injured during the clash.

Security operations remain ongoing in the area as government forces continue to monitor for any remaining threat elements.
