Suspect in RPG attack on Maguindanao mayor arrested

A police officer and military personnel are investigating a man seated on a stool in a rural area. The man appears to be unclothed from the waist up, while officers are armed and engaged in conversation with him. A blue vehicle is parked in the background, and firearms are visible on the ground.

Police arrested a suspected planner of the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack targeting Shariff Aguak Mayor Akmad “Mitra” Ampatuan in Maguindanao del Sur on Saturday afternoon, October 24.

The Maguindanao del Sur Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Aripi Adam,” who was apprehended during an operation in Datu Unsay.

Authorities recovered a loaded M4 rifle and ammunition from the suspect during the arrest.

Police also alleged that the suspect was involved in planting an improvised explosive device (IED) at the Maguindanao del Sur Police Provincial Headquarters the previous week.

Maguindanao del Sur Police Provincial Director Col. Michael John Mangahis warned that authorities would continue pursuing other individuals allegedly involved in the attack.

“We do not play games. We deliver justice,” Mangahis said.

Police are continuing their operations to locate and arrest the remaining suspects linked to the RPG attack.
