Suspect charged with murder in Naga City doctor’s death

The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has filed murder charges against Raymart Martinez, 34, in connection with the killing of Dr. Rajean Monnette Romualdez, whose body was found in a parked car in Naga City on February 16.

Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon of PRO-5 said Martinez, a resident of Barangay Concepcion Pequeña, is the reported boyfriend of the victim.

“The case was submitted to the city prosecutor’s office on Friday, February 21, in the afternoon. Before filing, officers from the Naga City Police Office assisted witnesses in subscribing their affidavits at the prosecutor’s office,” Dizon said.

Martinez is currently in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation while his case undergoes pre-evaluation. He surrendered on February 19, the day before Romualdez’s 37th birthday.

“At this stage, we cannot disclose details regarding the motive as the case is now with the prosecutor,” Dizon added.

A special team has been assigned to fast-track the investigation into the death of Romualdez, a 36-year-old physician at Bicol Medical Center and a graduate of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Romualdez, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, was discovered dead in her car along Princeton Street, near the hospital.

According to reports, the suspect, Martinez, fled to an island in Cebu following the incident. However, after negotiations with the NBI, he surrendered in Matnog, Sorsogon.

Initial findings indicate that Martinez was with Romualdez before the tragic event happened.
