BUTUAN CITY – Surigao del Sur Gov. Johnny Pimentel signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) Thursday with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to build a PHP55-million school building for Tagbina Elementary School in Tagbina town.
Pimentel was joined by PAGCOR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alejandro Tengco and DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara during the MOA signing in Manila.
“The partnership will provide students and teachers in Tagbina with improved, safer, and more conducive facilities for teaching and learning,” Pimentel said in a Friday statement.
He added that the provincial government continues to carry out its commitment to investing in education and creating better opportunities for children in Surigao del Sur.
“The proposed school building is also part of efforts to bring quality public infrastructure closer to communities and to ensure students have access to facilities that support their education,” Pimentel said.
In a separate statement on Friday, the DepEd said the project with PAGCOR will benefit around 49 public schools in the country and is expected to be completed in 2027.
