Surigao del Norte allots ₱3M aid for Cebu Quake Victims

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has approved a resolution allocating ₱3 million in assistance to victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu province.

Resolution No. 25-05, signed by PDRRM officer Cicero Cosme Tripoli and attested by Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers, cited the extensive damage and urgent humanitarian needs in Cebu, which has already been placed under a state of calamity.

“In solidarity and in recognition of the urgent humanitarian needs of the affected population, the province of Surigao del Norte deems it imperative to extend appropriate humanitarian assistance to the province of Cebu to aid in their relief, response, and recovery efforts,” the resolution read.

The PDRRMC recommended that the ₱3 million aid be drawn from the provincial disaster fund and other possible sources.

Officials said the move is in line with Republic Act 7160 (Local Government Code) and Republic Act 10121 (Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act), which promote solidarity and mutual aid among local government units in times of crisis.
