The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol reported one death and one injury as Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) struck the region on Sunday.
OCD-Bicol spokesperson Gremil Alexis Naz said both victims were from Catanduanes province. The fatality was a 48-year-old man from San Jose Poblacion, Viga, who was swept away by flash floods after returning home to check on his livestock during the storm. “The reported death will be validated by the Management of the Dead and Missing Persons (MDM) cluster,” Naz added.
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old man from Barangay Batalay, Bato, was injured after falling from the roof while securing his house. He was treated at the Eastern Bicol Medical Center.
OCD-Bicol reported that 70,053 families, or 247,883 individuals, are staying in 5,329 evacuation centers, while 45,611 families, or 152,801 people, are staying with relatives.
Flooding persists in 125 barangays, and 46 roads and bridges remain impassable. Power outages affected 67 cities and municipalities, 14 areas experienced communication disruptions, and four areas had water supply interruptions.
In total, Uwan affected 181,855 families, or 652,768 individuals, across 2,047 barangays in the Bicol Region.
