Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo will assume the chairmanship of the House Appropriations Committee in an acting capacity, following the resignation of Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co, according to House secretary general Reginald Velasco.
Quimbo, who currently serves as the senior vice chairperson of the committee, will take over the position vacated by Co due to health concerns. Under the House Rules, the acting chairperson “shall perform the duties of the chairperson only until such time that a new chairperson is chosen and assumes office.”
The Appropriations Committee is vital in reviewing and approving the national budget, a duty Quimbo will temporarily oversee as the House continues its budgetary work.
