“Squid Game” Season 2 has shattered viewing records, becoming the most-watched show on Netflix during its release week. The South Korean series amassed over 480 million hours of viewing, according to Netflix’s Global Top 10 rankings for the week ending Sunday.
This impressive achievement placed the show at the top of the non-English TV category, surpassing the viewing hours of both English and non-English films and other TV titles. Notably, Season 2 also surpassed the 448 million viewing hours of its predecessor, which debuted in September 2021, setting a new benchmark for Netflix releases.
Despite premiering just on Friday, December 27 (local time), Season 2 has already risen to No. 7 on the list of all-time most popular non-English series. The first season of “Squid Game” holds the top spot, followed by Spain’s “Money Heist” Part 4 and France’s “Lupin” Part 1.
In a separate announcement, Netflix teased the third season with a new poster, featuring Cheol-soo, a fresh character alongside Young-hee, the motion-sensing animatronic doll from the first season. Fans can expect Cheol-soo to appear in the upcoming season, slated for release this 2025.
