Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy on Monday pledged to carry on the projects and advocacies of the late Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo “Dax” Cua, whom he remembered as a public servant deeply committed to local governance and the welfare of his constituents.
Speaking during Cua’s necrological service at the House of Representatives, Dy said the late governor consistently placed the needs of Quirino residents at the center of his work.
“Kaya Dax, saan ka man naroroon ngayon, gusto kong malaman mo na narinig ko ang iyong hiling. At hindi natin hahayaang matapos ang iyong paglilingkod kasabay ng iyong pagpanaw,” Dy said.
He added: “The work must continue. The dreams must continue. And the things you wanted for your people must continue.”
Dy recalled Cua’s appeal for help in completing a sports facility in Quirino, saying the governor saw the project as more than infrastructure.
“To some, it is simply another government project. But to Dax, it represented something more. It meant opportunities for young people. A place where athletes could dream. A facility that the people of Quirino could call their own,” Dy said.
Cua served as vice governor and governor of Quirino, as well as representative of the province’s lone congressional district, before returning to the provincial capitol.
Dy said Cua’s legacy was defined not only by the positions he held but by his continued concern for the people he served.
“If you were to ask me what truly defined Dax as a leader, I wouldn’t start with the positions he held. I will start with the people he never forgot,” Dy said.
