Sen. Tito Sotto said the reported security threat against the Senate was serious, as concerns grew over the situation in the chamber.
Sotto made the remark after Senate President Pro Tempore Win Gatchalian confirmed in a radio interview that the National Bureau of Investigation had warned the Senate about a possible threat.
In a message to reporters, Sotto said intelligence information described the threat as very serious.
He added that the matter should be treated as a clear and present danger, requiring serious attention from authorities and Senate officials.
The warning came as the Senate remained under close watch amid political tensions and a continuing leadership dispute in the chamber.
Sen. Ping Lacson also weighed in on the reported threat, saying concerns were not limited to the Senate.
Lacson said there was also information pointing to frustration within the armed services that had allegedly reached battalion and regional levels.
Citing information from the NBI, Lacson said authorities were closely monitoring developments in the continuing political crisis, which he said was being shaped by various internal and external factors.
