The Oslo Police have announced charges against Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Norway’s future king. He is suspected of three counts of rape as well as 23 additional offenses.
Evidence in the case has been gathered from various sources, including text messages, witness testimony, and police searches. The charges encompass one incident of rape involving intercourse, two incidents of rape without intercourse, four instances of sexual assault, and two cases of bodily harm, according to Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski during a news conference.
“I cannot provide further details about the number of victims in the case other than to confirm that it is a double-digit figure,” he stated.
Høiby’s lawyer, Petar Sekulic, remarked that his client “takes the accusations very seriously but does not acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases, particularly those related to sexual abuse and violence.”
Høiby has been under investigation since his arrest on August 4, 2024, on suspicion of assault. He has been questioned multiple times throughout the autumn of 2024 and into the spring of 2025.
Police confirmed that some cases involving sexual offenses had been dismissed due to “statute of limitations and evidentiary reasons.”
This case has captured significant media attention in Norway, where the royal family enjoys substantial popularity.
The Royal House of Norway has stated that the case will proceed through the legal system and has no further comment to provide.
