Some 1,500 troops mobilized for S. Korea’s martial law ops

SEOUL – An estimated 1,500 soldiers were mobilized for President Yoon Suk Yeol’s botched martial law imposition earlier this month, the Defense Ministry said Monday.

The confirmation came a day after the police first cited the number of soldiers deployed from the defense ministry, the Army, the Capital Defense Command, the Army Special Warfare Command, the Defense Counterintelligence Command and the Defense Intelligence Command under martial law on Dec. 3.

“I understand the number currently confirmed by the defense ministry is at the 1,500 level,” the Ministry’s spokesperson Jeon Ha-kyou told a regular press briefing, adding verification for detailed figures is underway. (Yonhap)
