While TNT continues to battle a relentless wave of injuries in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals, San Miguel is doing the opposite—getting healthier and even more dangerous.
In a quiet but strategic move, the Beermen reactivated veteran forward Andreas Cahilig, adding even more depth to an already overpowering frontcourt. Cahilig made his finals debut in San Miguel’s commanding 105-91 Game 4 win on Sunday night, marking his return to the court after sitting out six straight games due to a hyperextended left knee he suffered in the semifinals against Rain or Shine.
Though his appearance was brief—just 34 seconds—it was a significant moment. Not only was it his first time back since the injury, but it was also his first-ever taste of the PBA Finals in his eight-year career.
“It was fun,” said the 34-year-old Fil-Swede. “But I just treated it like any other game. I didn’t want to make it too big of a deal, or else I’d get nervous. I just wanted to be ready.”
With San Miguel now holding a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, Cahilig could be just days away from winning his first PBA championship—and he might get to do it alongside longtime friend and former Terrafirma teammate Juami Tiongson. Both were acquired mid-season by the Beermen in a trade that sent Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel to the Dyip.
“It’s always great playing with Juami again,” Cahilig shared. “But what makes it really fulfilling is being part of this team. These guys—they’re winners. And I’m learning from them every day.”
While TNT scrambles for solutions amid mounting injuries, San Miguel continues to stack the odds in their favor, not just with their star power, but with timely roster reinforcements like Cahilig.
Game 5 of the finals tips off Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. And with momentum on their side and a fully loaded lineup, the Beermen are now just one win away from reclaiming the Philippine Cup crown.
