Bacolod City — When August rolls around, the City of Smiles has more than just sweet treats and warm hospitality to offer. This year, Bacolod is once again raising its glasses high as the 5th Tanduay Bacolod Rum Festival takes over the city from August 28 to 31, coinciding with the world’s month-long celebration of rum.

What started in 2019 as a partnership between Tanduay Distillers Inc. and Bacolod City has now grown into a must-experience event — equal parts cultural showcase, street party, and gastronomic adventure.

Where rum meets culture
Negros Occidental is known as the Philippines’ sugar capital, and from its rich fields comes one of the world’s most celebrated spirits: rum. The festival doesn’t just toast a drink — it pays homage to generations of sugarcane farmers, artisans, and craftsmen who built Bacolod’s rum heritage.

As Mayor Greg Gasataya puts it: “Our rum heritage connects us to our past, strengthens our identity, and positions the Philippines on the global stage.” In Bacolod, every pour tells a story — and every sip is a taste of tradition.

Ilabas ang natatagong galing — unleashing hidden talents
This year’s theme, “Ilabas ang Natatagong Galing” (Unleash Hidden Talent), goes beyond the bottle. The festival is a stage for Bacolod’s creative spirit — from dancers twirling in the streets to chefs reinventing Negrense classics with a splash of rum. Even mixologists get their moment, blending local flavors into cocktails that are as bold as they are refreshing.

What not to miss

For four unforgettable days, Bacolod transforms into a playground of taste, sound, and spectacle:

Street parades and dance battles that showcase Bacolod’s signature flair

Culinary pop-ups pairing the city’s famous dishes with world-class rum

Rum-tasting sessions for both connoisseurs and curious first-timers

Star-studded performances from Amiel Sol, Robledo Timido, Zack Tabudlo, Mayonnaise, plus appearances from Tanduay ambassadors Derek Ramsay and Julia Barretto

A bustling food park open until August 31, perfect for late-night bites and hangouts

More than just a party
Sure, the Rum Festival is a feast for the senses, but it’s also a boost for Bacolod’s local businesses, from hotels and restaurants to small vendors and transport operators. Visitors come for the rum but stay for the warmth, artistry, and undeniable charm of the city.

So whether you’re a foodie, a music lover, a dance enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys a good drink with great company, Bacolod in August is the place to be.

Mayor Gasataya has only one invitation: “See you at the 5th Tanduay Bacolod Rum Festival — let’s toast to Bacolod’s talent, culture, and spirit!”
