Senator Jinggoy Estrada was set to give himself up to authorities following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Sandiganbayan, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Monday.

Remulla said Estrada had indicated his intention to voluntarily surrender after the anti-graft court ordered his arrest in connection with a plunder case.

The DILG chief added that the senator would present himself at Camp Crame, the headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Earlier, the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division directed the arrest of Estrada and several co-accused over charges of plunder and graft.

Authorities said the plunder case filed against the senator was non bailable, making detention mandatory unless the court rules that the evidence presented is weak.

Under Philippine law, plunder carries a penalty of life imprisonment upon conviction.

Remulla said law enforcement agencies were prepared to receive Estrada and ensure that standard procedures would be followed once he is in custody.

The case forms part of ongoing legal proceedings involving allegations of misuse of public funds, with the court expected to determine whether the evidence warrants trial and eventual conviction.
