A shooting incident in Silay City, Negros Occidental killed two city hall personnel and injured seven others, when gunmen onboard a van opened fire at the victims who were having coffee at around 6:00 am before the polling officially starts in the municipality, reported Aileen Pedreso of GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas.
“Siyam po ang victims natin dito. Dalawa po ang dead on arrival po. Injured po yung pito,” Police Regional Office Negros Island Region director Police Brigadier Arnold Thomas Ibay said.
The victims were said to be on duty to monitor potential vote-buying activities for the 2025 elections.
Although the motive remains unclear, a city barangay captain is being eyed as a possible suspect, according to the report.
Police have launched a hot pursuit operation to apprehend the suspect.
In addition, the seven people who were injured in the incident are now at the hospital receiving medical attention.
