Shell Lubricants has once again secured its position as the world’s leading supplier of finished lubricants, marking an unmatched 19 consecutive years at the top of the global market, according to the 23rd edition of Kline & Company’s Global Lubricants: Market Analysis and Assessment 2025.
The latest Kline report ranks Shell as the number one global lubricants supplier based on finished lubricants sales volumes across automotive and industrial segments worldwide. Shell commanded a global market share of 11.6 percent in 2024, with sales almost evenly distributed across its core businesses: 37 percent from consumer automotive, 32 percent from industrial applications, and 31 percent from commercial automotive products.
Notably, Shell retained its top ranking in all three categories, underscoring the breadth and balance of its global portfolio.
Kline’s annual study provides an in-depth assessment of automotive and industrial finished lubricants, tracking trends across end-use industries, trade classes, and fast-evolving technologies such as electric vehicles and immersion cooling fluids used in digital and energy infrastructure. Once again, Shell emerged as the industry benchmark across both traditional and emerging segments.
Jason Wong, Global Executive Vice President for Shell Lubricants, said the milestone reflects the company’s long-term focus on performance, efficiency, and customer value. He noted that Shell continues to invest in premium, high-efficiency products designed to power progress across consumer, commercial, and industrial applications, aligned with its ambition to be the most customer-focused energy marketer and trader globally.
Kline Senior Project Manager Sushmita Dutta described Shell’s 19-year run at the top as a rare achievement in a highly competitive industry. She said the company’s sustained leadership is rooted in a consistent strategy of investing in advanced lubricant technologies while building strong, long-term relationships with customers across sectors and regions.
Shell’s dominance has been reinforced by a portfolio of globally preferred brands, including Shell Advance for motorcycles, Shell Helix for passenger vehicles, Shell Rimula for trucks and heavy-duty engines, and Shell Tellus and Shell Gadus for industrial applications. These products continue to hold strong positions in major markets worldwide.
In 2025, Shell further strengthened its technology leadership when Shell Helix Ultra became one of the first lubricants globally to meet the latest API SQ specifications, raising the bar for engine performance and protection.
This was followed by the launch of Shell Advance Ultra with API SP, Shell’s most advanced motorcycle and scooter engine oil, and the only premium motorcycle oil recommended by Ducati Corse. The company also renewed its decade-long partnership with BMW M Motorsport, reinforcing its close ties to high-performance engineering and motorsports innovation.
Beyond automotive applications, Shell expanded its footprint in next-generation digital infrastructure with the introduction of DLC Fluid S3, a Direct Liquid Cooling solution designed for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence workloads.
In a landmark industry first, Shell’s immersion cooling fluids received Intel certification in May, enabling their deployment in data centers worldwide and highlighting Shell’s growing role in supporting the energy demands of the digital economy.
As industries evolve and technology accelerates, Shell’s 19-year streak at the top signals not just scale, but a sustained ability to adapt, innovate, and lead in one of the world’s most competitive energy-related markets.
