Senator Poe seeks probe into SSS collection inefficiency

Senator Grace Poe has called for a Senate investigation into the reported inefficiency of the Social Security System (SSS) in collecting contributions.

The agency has been reported to be struggling with collecting contributions from delinquent employers.

Under the proposed Senate Resolution 1279, Poe cited reports showing that the SSS collected only P2.48 billion out of its P94.47 billion target in 2022, and only P4.58 billion out of P93.74 billion in 2023.

“This leaves at least P89.17 billion that are yet to be collected from 420,627 employers,” the resolution reads.

“Any increase in contributions will be rendered ineffective in extending the SSS fund life as projected if the agency’s collection rates continue to remain dismal,” it added.

SSS president and chief executive Robert De Claro previously stated that collections have improved, but the agency has yet to recover funds from delinquent accounts, as many employers were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

De Claro has yet to provide a statement regarding the proposed Senate investigation.
