SAUDI ARABIA – The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced Thursday, October 22, that it had intercepted and destroyed four drones over Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province amid a series of attacks targeting the kingdom.
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interceptions in a statement posted on social media platform X but did not disclose further operational details.
The announcement came after deadly incidents on Wednesday, including an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam that left one person dead and eight others injured, according to Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority.
In a separate incident, two people were killed and two others wounded when debris from an intercepted drone fell near an Aramco facility at the Shaybah oil field, the Saudi Energy Ministry reported.
The coalition also said it had intercepted and destroyed seven drones in separate incidents on Wednesday as hostilities involving Yemen’s Houthi group intensified.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis since 2015.
The Houthi group has controlled Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces since 2014.
