ISTANBUL – The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government announced Friday that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone in the region surrounding Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh.
Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki confirmed the interception in a statement posted on social media platform X.
The coalition did not immediately provide additional details about the drone’s origin, intended target, or whether the incident caused any casualties or damage.
The announcement came amid heightened military tensions between the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen’s Houthi group, which has carried out repeated missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi territory.
The Saudi-led coalition has supported Yemen’s internationally recognized government since 2015, following the Houthis’ takeover of the capital, Sanaa, in 2014.
The latest interception highlights continuing security concerns in the region as hostilities involving the coalition and Houthi forces persist.
