The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Eastern Visayas says the damaged portion of Maharlika Highway in Samar is now cleared for motorists this Holy Week.

Regional Director Edgar Tabacon reports that contractors have been monitored to prevent one-way traffic along the highway.

Sections that are not fully completed before the holiday have been temporarily restored and opened to traffic, Tabacon adds.

Secretary Vince Dizon visited Samar on March 9 and instructed field personnel to finish ongoing road reblocking work ahead of the Holy Week exodus.

DPWH engineers have ensured that both lanes of the main highway are passable, and potholes were temporarily covered for safety.

Tabacon notes that while the highway is open, full rehabilitation will continue after the holiday.

The most damaged portions in Samar still require extensive repairs, and work is ongoing to restore them completely.
