College of Saint Benilde (CSB) kicked off its NCAA Season 100 men’s volleyball campaign with a thrilling four-set victory over Arellano University, 25-22, 27-25, 27-29, 25-19, on Thursday at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym.

Rocky Roy Motol spearheaded the Blazers’ attack, exploding for 25 points—23 of which came from powerful spikes—leading CSB to its opening-day triumph. Skipper Arnel Christian Aguilar contributed across the board with eight points and 15 excellent receptions, while setter Chris Lorenz Villanueva orchestrated the offense with 19 excellent sets and added three points.

Despite falling short, the Arellano Chiefs put up a valiant fight, especially in a marathon third set that extended to 30 minutes before they finally took it. CJ Dominguito led the charge with 17 points, while Carl Justin Berdal added 12. Daniel Adonai Agovida made his presence felt with 10 points, including three blocks, while Anfernee Curamen and Jiwen Sinuto scored nine each.

Chiefs captain Adrian Villados dished out 21 excellent sets but struggled to keep pace with CSB’s relentless offensive firepower.

Defending champions await as NCAA season heats up
Defending champion University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is expected to be a tough challenge for all contenders this season, with Emilio Aguinaldo College and Letran also looking to build on their strong finishes last year.

Meanwhile, in the women’s division, College of Saint Benilde enters as the reigning champion, with Letran and Lyceum of the Philippines University rounding out last season’s top three.

With an intense opening match setting the tone, the road to the NCAA men’s volleyball title is shaping up to be an exciting battle.
