KYIV – Russian drone strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region killed at least three people and injured more than 10 on Sunday, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The Kyiv regional prosecutor’s office said one drone struck a market in Sofiivska Borshchahivka. Other strikes damaged vehicles and triggered fires at a warehouse and an office building.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had launched 277 attack drones of various types since Saturday, damaging civilian and public facilities across the country. He said one of the buildings hit was used as the residence of the Saudi Arabian ambassador.
Zelenskyy said kindergartens, schools, a residential building, an auto repair shop, warehouses and communications facilities were among the sites damaged in Kyiv. He also reported damage to a sports school in Dnipro and a children’s home in the Sumy region.
The Ukrainian leader accused Moscow of deliberately trying to harm civilians and renewed his call for stronger international pressure on Russia.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine and its partners were preparing additional sanctions targeting financial networks, supply chains for weapons components and companies and individuals involved in producing Russian ballistic missiles.
Russia has repeatedly denied deliberately targeting civilians, saying its forces strike military infrastructure and other military-related targets.
The Russian Defense Ministry, meanwhile, said its forces had attacked communications and logistics facilities as well as a cargo vessel it alleged was carrying military and dual-use supplies for Ukrainian forces in Kyiv and Odesa.
Independent verification of battlefield claims from either side remains difficult because of the continuing war. Recent reporting also shows Kyiv has faced repeated Russian drone and missile attacks over several consecutive days.
