MANILA – Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains in effect over Batanes as Typhoon Rosal slightly weakened over the waters east of Taiwan on Saturday, October 24, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA located Rosal 415 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts reaching 185 kph.
The typhoon was moving southwestward at 10 kph and was forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Saturday morning before heading toward the East China Sea.
Despite its weakening, Rosal’s outer circulation is expected to generate strong to gale-force gusts across the Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, northern Quezon, Polillo Islands, Bicol Region, Romblon, Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
PAGASA also maintained a gale warning over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, with very rough seas expected along the coastal waters of Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are forecast across the rest of Luzon, while the Visayas and Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
Meanwhile, Rosal’s trough will bring scattered rains over the Ilocos Region, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Abra, and Benguet.
The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will also trigger scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Palawan, Masbate, and Sorsogon.
Other parts of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized weather disturbances.
Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides, while fishermen and operators of small vessels should closely monitor marine advisories before sailing.
