A delegation from the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) has honored Filipino troops who fought in the Korean War, underscoring the long-standing military and diplomatic ties between the Philippines and South Korea, as reported by the Philippine Army (PA) on Wednesday.
In a statement, PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala announced that a wreath-laying ceremony was held on Monday at the Korean War Memorial Pylon inside the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
“The ceremony marked the beginning of the ROKA delegation’s three-day engagement with the PA, aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and South Korea in building a stronger Army-to-Army partnership,” Dema-ala stated.
He emphasized that this enduring cooperation has fostered strong and sustained bilateral ties across various fields, including defense, education, labor, trade, culture, and tourism. “The PA remains committed to promoting international cooperation among like-minded nations to foster a unified and effective approach in addressing emerging security challenges in the Indo-Pacific Region,” he added.
The Philippines and the Republic of Korea have shared 75 years of diplomatic relations, which began on March 3, 1949. The Philippines deployed the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea on June 25, 1950, to help defend South Korea’s freedom against communist aggression.
