A 33-year-old man was arrested following a robbery in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City, after police conducted a follow-up operation.
Authorities apprehended the suspect as he loitered along the roadside
The victim, a 24-year-old man, identified the suspect, leading to his immediate arrest. Police recovered the victim’s cellphone, wallet, and a loaded firearm from the suspect.
According to P/Maj. Mark Ronan Balmaceda, deputy station commander of Batasan Police, the victim was walking to a relative’s house when the suspect approached him, pulled out a gun, and demanded his belongings.
The victim reported the incident to the Batasan Police Station, prompting a swift response from authorities. During the investigation, police confirmed the firearm was unlicensed and noted the ongoing Comelec gun ban.
The suspect admitted to the crime, citing financial struggles and lack of employment as his reasons. He also claimed to have borrowed the firearm from a friend.
He now faces charges of robbery and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, along with a breach of the Omnibus Election Code.
