Low-income families have begun receiving 10 kilograms of rice each under the Marcos administration’s food assistance program.

The distribution covered 7,727 beneficiaries identified by the local government through its social welfare office.

Beneficiary Emelyn Quinay said the rice assistance would help ease her family’s daily needs, especially in providing food for her children.

The program aims to extend rice aid to indigent individuals and families through local government units as part of efforts to address food insecurity among vulnerable households.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office prepared the list of qualified recipients.

Officials said households that had already received previous rice subsidies were excluded from the latest list to allow other low-income families to benefit from the program.

The Ilocos Norte provincial government also resumed its own rice distribution this week to reach more poor households across the province.

The provincial government earlier received about Php 68 million from the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Local Government Support Fund for the second tranche of rice aid. The first phase of the program last month provided 10 kilograms of rice each to more than 37,000 indigent families.
