Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Wednesday that he was considering filing human trafficking charges against former Negros Oriental Rep. Jacinto “Jing” Paras over his alleged role in a supposed “honey trap” operation.
Remulla said he, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon and Executive Secretary Ralph Recto were allegedly among the targets.
He claimed Paras may have organized the scheme and served as a link to the person who allegedly recruited the women involved.
The National Bureau of Investigation is looking into allegations that Paras and Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste hired four women to make fabricated claims against Recto involving illegal drugs and sexual acts.
Remulla said authorities were studying possible legal action, including human trafficking charges, while the NBI investigation continued.
Paras had yet to respond to the latest allegation as of posting time.
Paras and Leviste have both denied involvement in the alleged scheme.
