The local music scene is mourning the loss of Piwee Polintan, the unmistakable voice behind some of the late 1990s’ most heartfelt OPM ballads. The Jeremiah frontman passed away on October 28, as confirmed by the band in an emotional Facebook post that has since flooded with tributes from fans and fellow artists alike.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Piwee Polintan, beloved vocalist of the band Jeremiah,” the group wrote. “He was more than a singer—he was our brother, our friend, our heart.”

Piwee’s voice—smooth, soulful, and brimming with emotion—became synonymous with Jeremiah’s signature hits like Bakit Ka Iiyak?, Nanghihinayang, Kahit Anong Mangyari, and Basta’t Ikaw. These songs dominated radio airwaves during the height of OPM’s acoustic and sentimental era in the early 2000s, soundtracking countless love stories and heartbreaks.

Formed in 1998, Jeremiah quickly rose to fame, earning the Best Performance by a New Group trophy at the 12th Awit Awards—a testament to their musical impact and Piwee’s unforgettable vocals.

Just days before his passing, the band revealed that Piwee had suffered a stroke on October 23. Since then, fans across the country rallied online, offering prayers and words of support to their beloved frontman. The band expressed gratitude to everyone who stood by them during this difficult time.

“Please continue to keep his family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers,” Jeremiah said. “His legacy will live on through the songs and memories he shared with the world.”

For many, Piwee was more than just a singer. He was the embodiment of OPM’s golden era—an artist who sang from the heart and gave voice to emotions that words alone couldn’t express. Friends and fans describe him as a warm soul who never lost his humility, even after fame.

As his melodies echo once more across social media tributes and late-night playlists, Piwee Polintan’s passing reminds us how deeply music can touch the human spirit—and how one voice can live forever in the hearts it moved.
