The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) has named the recipients of the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s highest honor recognizing transformative leadership and service. The awardees are the Foundation to Educate Girls Globally (Educate Girls) from India, Shaahina Ali from the Maldives, and Fr. Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva from the Philippines.
Educate Girls is honored for breaking cultural barriers and promoting education among girls in rural and marginalized communities in India, enabling thousands to return to school and develop skills and confidence.
Shaahina Ali, an environmental advocate and executive director of Parley Maldives, is recognized for her leadership in protecting the Maldives’ marine ecosystems through campaigns against plastic pollution. She is the first Maldivian to receive the award.
Filipino priest Fr. Flaviano Antonio “Father Flavie” Villanueva, SVD, is awarded for his lifelong mission to restore dignity to the poor, homeless, and families affected by the Philippine government’s anti-drug campaign. Through the Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center, which he founded in 2015, he provides holistic care and psychosocial support, while his “Paghilom” program aids widows and orphans in healing and rebuilding their lives.
RMAF president Susanna Afan said the awardees embody hope and resilience under this year’s theme, “Illuminating Our Future.” Established in 1958, the Ramon Magsaysay Award honors individuals and organizations advancing justice, dignity, and progress in Asia.
The 67th Ramon Magsaysay Awards Presentation Ceremonies will be held on November 7, 2025. Each awardee will receive a medallion, certificate of citation, and cash prize.
