Electricity service in the island town of Patnanungan in Quezon province will be reduced after fuel supplies for its power plant ran low, local officials said.
The municipal government said the measure was taken to manage remaining fuel while waiting for new deliveries from the mainland.
Mayor Claire Larita Natividad said the town’s power facility would temporarily operate for only 16 hours each day starting March 22.
She said electricity would be available from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. the next day under the interim schedule.
The National Power Corporation earlier informed local officials of the limited fuel supply, prompting the adjustment in operations.
Authorities said a new shipment was expected to arrive from the port of Real in Quezon, which would allow the restoration of normal service.
The reduced operating hours were expected to last for about five days before 24 hour power supply resumes.
Residents were advised to conserve electricity during the period to help ensure that available supply could be distributed across the community.
