The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will donate 2,000 balls to support grassroots sports development in public schools nationwide.
According to the PSC, the donation includes 1,000 volleyballs from the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, 500 basketballs from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), and 500 footballs from the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).
The initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a new national sports development program, which he outlined in his fourth State of the Nation Address on July 28. “Bubuo tayo ng bagong pambansang programa para sa sports development. Uumpisahan natin ito sa paaralan pa lamang (We will form a new national program for sports development. We will start this in school),” Marcos said.
In partnership with the Department of Education, the PSC aims to revive school-based sports activities such as clubs, inter-school competitions, and intramurals to nurture young talent across the country.
PSC Chair Patrick Gregorio expressed optimism about the program’s impact. “We are standing at the threshold of a great new era and the dawn of a truly exciting legacy. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas (Long live the Philippines)!” he said.
