The Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-11) issued a warning on Monday to protesters against the burning of images or effigies of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In a statement, PRO-11 emphasized that violators could face charges under Republic Act Nos. 9003, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, and 8749, the Clean Air Act.
While PRO-11 affirmed its respect for the public’s right to free expression, it also stated that it would exercise maximum tolerance. “Nonetheless, we will not hesitate to take lawful actions against individuals or groups who seek to cause harm or danger to our community,” the statement added.
The police office encouraged the public to prioritize safety by viewing the SONA from the comfort of their homes. “Let us all stay safe while also staying informed on this important national event,” it concluded.
This statement comes as part of the preparations for the upcoming SONA on July 28, 2025.
